Creative Lighting Class & Demos
I've been doing a little teaching this year-last Saturday I taught a full day creative lighting workshop through Newspace Photo.
I had a class of 9 students, and spent the day exploring the idea of non-formula driven lighting, while at the same time showing them as much technique and gear as possible. I've also been helping my friend Jen Brinkman, who teaches photography at both PNCA and MHCC, by inviting her classes into my studio and giving them a 2 hour lighting demo.
I'm really enjoying these opportunities to give back to the photo community. It's fun to share my love for both the art and for the gadgets, and it's an opportunity to do what I can to influence these new/upcoming photographers to consider themselves as professional photographers.
The other reason I love doing this is that I walk away with a some new portraits from every session. It's a different mindset altogether than when I'm shooting for a client. These portraits are quick-studies in technique, and I always get a few shots that surprise me.
